What a dehumidifier can do for you
Reduces humidity: A dehumidifier helps to remove excess moisture from the air, resulting in a more comfortable and healthier indoor climate.
Helps prevent mould growth: By controlling and reducing humidity, the risk of mould growth in living spaces is reduced, contributing to a healthier environment.
Protects furniture and other objects: A dehumidifier can help prevent moisture damage to furniture, clothes and other objects in your home.
Improves air quality: By reducing humidity, electric dehumidifiers can help reduce allergens such as dust mites, mould spores and mildew, which is particularly beneficial for allergy and asthma sufferers.
Protects against odours: By dehumidifying the room air, dehumidifiers can help to reduce unpleasant odours that are encouraged by moisture.
Improves sleep quality: in areas with high humidity, a dehumidifier in the bedroom contributes to a more comfortable and healthier sleeping environment, which leads to improved sleep quality.
Dehumidifies cellars, pantries and laundry drying rooms: A dehumidifier in the cellar or laundry room helps to control moisture to prevent mould and odours.
Dries laundry faster: A dehumidifier speeds up laundry drying, especially in humid climates or in the rain.

Buying a dehumidifier: what do you need to consider?
The size of the room is crucial when choosing the right dehumidifier. The larger the room, the higher the dehumidification capacity should be. It is important to consider the room volume (area in square meters x room height). As a rule, manufacturers assume a room height of 2.5 meters for their room size recommendation.
For a room-by-room walkthrough see our guide to choosing the right size, and if the damp is spread across a house, whether one unit can cover a whole villa.
Depending on where (laundry room, cellar, living room) the dehumidifier is used, other criteria are important. If you are considering drying laundry, a dehumidifier with a swing function is suitable. For water damage, an industrial construction dryer is more suitable. A quiet dehumidifier with a night mode is ideal for dehumidifying bedrooms or living rooms. Mobile dehumidifiers are easy to move around on castors.
If the room already has air conditioning, this guide explains what the AC does and does not remove. For a bedroom, see what to look for in a quieter unit.
If the humidity is very high, the dehumidifier should remain switched on all the time if possible. The energy consumption can be controlled if the appliance has a hygrostat. The hygrostat can be used to set the desired target humidity. As soon as this is reached, the appliance switches off automatically.
Depending on the model and intended use, the water collection volume is also decisive.
Capacity varies by model. Dehumidifiers for home use are commonly rated around 10 to 20 litres per 24 hours with a 4 to 5 litre tank, while higher-capacity models such as Lukas Pro are rated up to 50 litres per 24 hours. Ideally, the dehumidifier has a connection option for a hose to remove the condensation water in drainage mode.
Dehumidifiers with granulate are cheaper to buy, but the ongoing purchase of desiccant must be factored into the overall costs. Compressor dehumidifiers are initially more expensive, as quality has its price. For a dehumidifier to function reliably for several years, it must be equipped with high-quality components. These components are reflected in the price.
